In this article, I am going to give a brief explanation of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), while comparing organic vs paid search results.
Statistics have shown that most searches on the internet are through search engines, sites like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Of that, 60% of searches are through Google, which is why we utilize Google Ads to help our clients gain more revenue. There are two ways to rise in the results page of a search engine: organic and paid.
Organic Search Results
Organic search results are not paid. They are the search results that come right under the Google Ads results. The factors in rank are determined by a combination of keywords, age, and views (the more views, the higher you will rank), backlinks (other reputable sites linking back to your site), and great content (consistent new quality blog posts). SEO takes a lot of time with no guarantee of success. This is also why you SEO contracts typically are from 6 months to 1 year because it takes that long to start seeing results. It’s also why there are a lot of SEO “experts” who sign a business onto a long-term contract and then produce no results. But the business can’t get out of the contract.
Most business owners don’t have the patience or the willingness to risk to wait 6 months or more to start seeing potential results.
Paid Search aka Google Ads
In the simplest terms, paid search is, you bid on certain keywords and it’ll show up on top of Google above all other results. It’s almost immediate, you can see trackable results within 1-2 months.
Unlike SEO, with Google Ads, there is clear trackable results and return on ROI. You know exactly if it’s working or not. And you are only charged by Google whenever your ad works and someone clicks on your ad.
This is because with Google Ads you can code in call tracking which shows if the new customer is calling in from seeing your ad and what search term they used to find you. You’ll be able to see on your dashboard exactly which calls are coming in from Google Ads and which are from people who visited your website through word of mouth.
Your Google Ad ranking depends on how good the quality of your ad is multiplied by how much you bid on the keyword. Here’s more detail on how it works:
Most business owners want to see immediate results first.
And this is especially true when they are hiring someone to do it for them. Immediate results gives them the trust that the agencies know what they are doing.
This is why we recommend starting with Google Ads first and then once they see the results within 1-2 months then to start doing SEO.
